PRODUCT LINE 06 · LOW EXTRACTABLES

Platinum cured silicone tubing
for the cleanest fluid path

Addition-cured rather than peroxide-cured. No volatile by-products, no post-cure smell, and a much lower extractables profile for pharma, biotech and ultra-pure water.

WHY THIS SPEC

The difference is what is
not left in the rubber.

Peroxide curing works by decomposing an organic peroxide at high temperature. It leaves fragments behind, and those fragments are what you smell in a cheap silicone hose, what fogs a clear tube, and what shows up as extractables in a TOC or HPLC blank. Platinum addition curing cross-links through a hydrosilylation reaction with no such residue.

The practical consequences are concrete: the tube is genuinely water-clear instead of yellowish, it does not need a post-cure bake to drive off volatiles, and it does not gradually bloom a haze onto the bore in service. On a pharma or biotech line, that is the difference between a tube you qualify once and a tube you re-qualify every year.

No peroxide fragments
Addition cure leaves no decomposition products, so nothing to leach into the product path.
Water-clear, not yellow
Transparent enough to see bubbles and colour change in the line.
No post-cure required
Lower volatiles out of the box; no baking step before first use.
Low extractables
TOC and UV absorbance data available for the compound family on request.
OPTIONS

Four ways to specify it

Same compound family, different construction. Mixing two options on one order is common and usually cheaper than splitting the purchase.

Ultra-Clear Tubing

Low-Extractable Pharma

For injectable and WFI contact

ID 1.6–12.7 mm · USP VI

Odour-Free Food Grade

No rubber note in dairy and beverage

ID 3–19 mm · FDA

High-Tear Platinum

Soft compound for catheter and pump duty

ID 0.5–8 mm · 30–40 A
WHERE IT RUNS

Applications this line is specified into

01

Pharmaceutical

WFI, buffer and product transfer with a low TOC contribution.

02

Biotech & single-use

Feed and harvest lines on disposable systems.

03

Dairy & beverage

Taste-neutral lines where peroxide cure leaves a note.

04

Device assembly

Clear shafts and pump segments, sterilisable.

05

Laboratory & analytical

HPLC and ICP sample lines with a clean blank.

06

Ultra-pure water

Semiconductor and cosmetics water loops.

DIMENSIONS

Bore, clarity and hardness

Clarity is graded by visual inspection against a reference under 500 lux. Pharma grades are supplied with a lot-specific TOC value rather than a typical figure.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

How much lower are the extractables, really?
It depends on the compound and the solvent, so we quote measured TOC and UV absorbance for the specific family rather than a marketing number. As a rule, platinum cure removes the peroxide fragment class entirely; what remains is low-level oligomer, which post-curing further reduces.
Is it worth the price difference over peroxide cure?
If the tube contacts product that will be assayed, tasted, or injected, yes. If it is a coolant line or a sleeve, the peroxide-cured tube is fine and costs less. We quote both so the choice is yours rather than ours.
Can the clear tube be sterilised without clouding?
Steam and EO are fine. Gamma at high dose can yellow a clear tube slightly; if visual inspection matters after sterilisation, specify the gamma-stabilised compound.
What post-cure do you apply?
Pharma and food grades get a post-cure bake to drive off residual volatiles. The bake schedule is recorded per lot and available in the certificate of analysis.
Can I get a sample with the TOC data?
Yes. Send the solvent and the contact conditions; we run the extraction on the same compound lot that the sample comes from, so the number matches the tube in your hand.

Qualify the tube, not the datasheet.

Tell us the fluid, the contact time and the assay sensitivity. We send a sample with the compound lot number and the corresponding extractables data so your qualification starts from a real measurement.
